by Jess Clackum

A native of Northern California, Rep. Davis graduated from UC Berkeley with a degree in sociology. After graduation she traveled to Israel, lived on a kibbutz and worked with at-risk youths. Upon her return to the United States, she attended the University of North Carolina and earned a Master’s degree in social work.

Rep. Davis was elected to the California State Assembly for three terms with an interest in education, health care and consumer protection. During her term in office she chaired the Committee on Consumer Protection, Government Efficiency and Economic Development.

Davis is passionate about supporting America’s veterans and is a strong advocate for military families. As a member of the U.S. House, she has served on the House Committee on Veterans Affairs for three years writing laws increasing the home loan limit guarantees, health care funding and overall veteran’s benefits. As the past Chairwoman of the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Military Personnel, and currently Ranking Member, she has been a voice for change in regards to military pay, benefits, housing and healthcare.

For her work on behalf of the military, the Military Officers Associated presented her with the Colonel Arthur T. Marix Congressional Leadership Award. She was also recognized by the National Military Family Association for her work with military families and spouses.

“Military families face unique challenges and Congress must work to ensure their needs are met,” she said. “They do so much on our behalf of our nation that we owe them an enormous debt of gratitude for their sacrifices.”

Rep. Davis has been one of the leading voices defending the service of the Women Airforce Service Pilots.  Davis co-sponsored the Bill that passed the House on March 22nd granting the WASP inurnment rights at Arlington National Cemetery.

"When the call came to serve in World War II, the WASP answered that call like millions of other Americans. They have inurnment rights in other national cemeteries throughout the country. That right should include Arlington National Cemetery, which has always been considered a special place of honor."
