Richard lectures about the heroic women pilots of England's Air Transport Auxiliary. They kept the Royal Air Force's front-line airfields equipped with fighters and bombers throughout WWII, but the story of the men and women of the ATA has never been widely told.
Twenty-five American women joined the efforts of the ATA, and only after their contribution was proved a success, did the U.S. military allow for the creation of the Women Airforce Service Pilots.
The Centre's ATA collection is now the 2nd largest in the world, and their exhibition and archive opened in 2011 by prince Michael of Kent, is the only facility in the world dedicated solely to the ATA. Donations to support the museum's work can be made at: http://www.maidenheadheritage.org.uk/
